Congratulations to Caelan Fortes, the winner of the Learning in Action Facebook contest. Caelan is a fourth-year in the College of Arts & Sciences, and her favorite service-related activities include Relay for Life at UVa, Charlottesville Leadership Workshop, and Sigma Kappa sorority.
Relay for Life at UVa is the largest student-run philanthropy on Grounds and fundraises throughout the year for the American Cancer Society. As a fundraising committee member, Caelan will work all year to prepare for the 12-hour long event with the goal of raising $175,000.
As the Sigma Kappa philanthropy chair, Caelan organizes various events and initiatives to raise money and awareness for organizations like the Sigma Kappa Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Association. Caelan says, “I’m proud to hold this position in SK because of the unique opportunity it provides to give back to five different and deserving philanthropies.”
