Students posted on Speak Up UVA saying that they wanted to see Wilsdorf Café hours extended. Our Building and Grounds committee has worked with Dining to make this idea a reality.

Starting November 11, 2009, Wilsdorf Café will extend its hours of operation from 3pm to 5pm. This extension is a trial period that will be evaluated at the end of the semester to see if the changes made should be permanent.

Speak Up: What do you think about the extended hours? How late should Wilsdorf Café stay open?

Yes, definitely have extended hours. This is important for faculty too! That is afternoon coffee time, in the 3-5 slot! Thanks so much for lobbying for a more reasonable schedule. Now if only the university would recognize that science and engineering research takes place year round, not just according to the undergrad class schedule. We need to eat and drink the whole year, not just when classes are in session! It takes time away from research if people have to venture far away to get food and drink. If UVA is really a research university, then they really ought to provide these kinds of services and facilities to researchers, who comprise undergrads, grads, postdocs and faculty. Typically we work over breaks and in the summer too!

I love the extended hours!! Most of my classes are in the Chem building or in Gilmer, so the Wildsdorf Cafe is very convenient for any coffee, snacks, etc. in between classes, but I was always rushing to get there before 3pm. It should definitely remain open until 5pm permanently! Thank you!

I was just looking up hours and said "thank Goodness!" when I found this :) Definitely agree with the comment about having year-round hours. If they are having trouble coming up with business, it may help to advertise more, because not everyone may know about where the coffee places are.
