Dear Students:
This is a difficult time for our community. The violent death of fourth-year student Yeardley Love has left her many friends, classmates, and teammates grief-stricken. Many of us are in shock as to how such an act could occur.
Yeardley’s death comes at the end of a year marked by other student deaths and acts of violence within the community. At the University-wide memorial service last Friday, we remembered the lives of six of our fellow students who had passed away during this school year. Little did we know that we would experience another tragic loss so soon within our community.
Student Council feels it is important to come together during this sad time. As a means of uniting the entire community, we will be holding a candlelight vigil tomorrow evening, May 5, at 8 p.m. in the Amphitheatre. President John Casteen, Fourth-Year Class President Sarah Elaine Hart, and I will offer brief remarks, accompanied by musical tributes and the candlelight vigil. The program will last about an hour and is open to all.
Although I know this is a busy, stressful time for students just as we start exams, I hope you will come tomorrow evening for this opportunity to reach out to one another in comfort, support, and unity.
Sincerely,
Colin Hood
Student Council President

My heart and prayers go out to Ms. Love's family. She seemed to be the face of a student/athlete. From what I hear her personality lit up the lives of others around her. In her short time on this earth her presence seemed to be felt throughout whatever community she decided to be a part of. It is a shame to see such a beautiful soul go at such an early age, but it is clear to me that God has bigger and better plans for her. This tragic loss will be an eye-opening story for many young athletes who get caught up in the smaller and meaningless details of life. Once again my prayers are with the entire University of Virginia community.
My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fellow students who are mourning the death of Ms. Yeardley Love. Such a tragic loss at a tender age. Her whole life ahead of her, taken in an instant. "I pray that Almighty God might assuage the anguish of your berevement and leave you only cherished memories of your loving Yeardley".
I will light a candle for her at my home in Vermont at 8 p.m. tonight. I continue to pray for her soul and for her family, friends and classmates. This is such a sad, sad time. My sincere condolences to you all from the bottom of my heart. God Bless all of you and God Bless Yeardley Love.
A few years ago the support of the UVA community was so important to me as we dealt with the tragedy at Va Tech. Let me say that this Hokie is thinking about the family and friends of Ms. Love. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Wahoo nation. We stand with you in your time of sorrow.
My deepest sympathy to the Love family, including all who knew and were touched by her bright light. This tragedy goes to the deepest level because of the circumstances of her death. We need to honor Yeardley's life by continuing our work to eradicate violence against women at every level.
I give my deepest respect and prayers to Ms. Love's family in grievance and honor. I hope that George Huguely gets the punishment he deserves.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.- Psalm 23:6
The tragic news of Yeardley's death has been felt far and wide. Along with so many folks in Oregon, I feel your pain. As an alum and mother of a student at UVa, I cannot imagine the impact on her family, friends, colleagues, and residents of Charlottesville. Such a beautiful spirited young girl lost as she was about to graduate and walk the Lawn… Sending thoughts and prayers to Yeardley's mother, sister, teammates, and friends. XO
The tragic death of Yeardley Love leaves all of us heartbroken. She was an inspiration to so many
during her life and now in her passing she will always be remembered. Bless her in eternal life.
She will never be forgotten. Yeardley, we love you and we will cherish your memory forever.
My daughter is a Virginia Tech 4-16 survivor. I will always remember how the UVA community rallied around the Hokie Nation as we fell to our knees in shock, horror, and grief. UVA, my heart and prayers are with you. Standing with you in your time of grief.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Love family. I feel deeply sadden by the event and I know how my fellow alumns must feel as well. She will forever and always be a WAHOO!!
God Bless Yeardley's memory and comfort those who knew her.
