I hope you’re ready, because Fall Appropriations is right around the corner!
The History behind Appropriations
In 1946, the University’s President Colgate Darden delegated to Student Council the responsibility of recognizing student organizations. In 1973, the Board of Visitors created the Student Activities Fee, a fee that every students pays in his or her tuition each year, to help financially support student groups. Council then began using this fee to fund these student groups. Today this process has grown into an Appropriations Process that helps fund nearly 800 student groups with more than $600,000! We remain committed to investing in your CIO’s ideas and helping shape them into new realities that foster community at the University.
SAF Guidelines & the Treasurer’s Meetings
Each year Student Council and the Office of the Dean of Students publish the SAF Guidelines to help your CIO understand the Appropriations Process and BOV, StudCo, & ODOS policies regarding the Student Activities Fee. You can check out a copy of the 2010-2011 Guidelines here on the Student Council website: http://www.uvastudentcouncil.com/appropriations.
Student Council and ODOS Business Services are hosting Treasurers’ Meetings at the beginning of the semester to educate your CIO on the Appropriations process and important reimbursement policies, and field any questions you might have. Your CIO is required to have either a Treasurer, President, Chair, or Primary Contact attend one of these meetings in order to be eligible for funding. This year, we’re trying something new with our Meetings! We are including a few more dates at diverse locations across Grounds to bring the information right to you! Each Meeting will also include different content made specifically for your type of CIO, suited to address your specific needs. However, your CIO is welcome to attend any of the Meetings that best fits in with your schedule.
