International Dining

On September 27, 2010, in Diversity Initiatives, News, Presidential Cabinet, by Salma Nabi

The Diversity Initiatives Committee has teamed up with UVA Housing to create an international dining program that will allow students who stay in Charlottesville during the small breaks (i.e. Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break) a dining option. Every year, during these extended breaks, the on-grounds dining halls at UVA close, leaving those students who are international, out-of-state, or simply aren’t going home for break without a place to eat on grounds. We are working with faculty members, Off-Grounds Housing, and Residence Life to establish a program that will provide these students with dining options during these small breaks.

We are currently working on gauging the interest of various organizations to determine how many students would be interested in helping out with the program. From there, we will work on plans for getting food donations from various sources and the logistics (setting up, distributing, clean-up, etc) to make the program a success with the ultimate goal of providing students with food when the dining halls are closed.
