The Hello Bar is a simple web toolbar that engages users and communicates a call to action.

This spotlight recognizes two students, Katie Pollard, a 4th year American Studies and Government major, and Atlee Webber, a 3rd year Global Development and Studies major, who strive to reduce hunger in Charlottesville each day through their work with Campus Kitchens. These co-coordinators were drawn together because of their matching passion and dedication for the program when they were both on the initial leadership team. Katie explains that they were orginially inspired by Campus Kitchen because “ its vision, while ambitious and important, is also incredibly practical. We have means to help reduce hunger right here in our dining halls and restaurants.”

Both Katie and Atlee hope to raise awareness about hunger levels in the local community and thereby find a solution to this issue. Katie states, “ there are unacceptable disparities in Charlottesville, and hunger issues arise from deep systematic forces. I hope that our work can, at the most basic level, help to reduce the amount of people who might go hungry on any given day” Atlee explains that this program is so important to her because she wants it “ to become a lasting, well-established, sustainable program at VUA that both community members and UVA students value.” Atlee hopes to continue serving the roader community through working at a non-profit organization. Katie also plans to continue her service work after graduating by bringing about more just institutions either through the courts or at a non-profit organization.
