Hey UVA! My name is Cristina Maldonado and I am one of the co-chairs of the Environmental Sustainability Committee. I’m writing this blog to let you know about some of the exciting things going on with sustainability this year.
GIFT Grants. Last spring, Student Council mandated the creation of the Green Initiative Funding Tomorrow (GIFT) Grant Allocations Committee. Equipped with a $20,000 budget, the committee will distribute funds to sustainability projects or initiatives in a manner that adheres to the goal of maximizing environmental benefit at the least financial cost, and establishing UVa as leader in environmental sustainability.
Sustainability Business Consultants. Members of our committee will be working with local businesses in the area to encourage sustainable business practices.
Film and Speaker Series. We will be organizing environmental speakers and films to come to UVA.
E-Newsletter. This weekly email newsletter started last year to promote and advertise events around grounds related to sustainability. You can sign up for it here!
