(I’ll admit, I googled “safety puns,” and this is the best I found.)
Hi everyone! My name is Arushi Kumar, and I am one of the co-chairs of the Safety & Wellness Committee on Student Council. Whether you’re a first-year (who might still call yourself a freshman) or a third-year (who just wishes you were actually at Hogwarts), I want to begin by thanking you. By coming to the Student Council website and reading any portion of any one of our blog posts, you’ve already enabled yourself to better help us help you. (I promise that sentence makes sense in my head.)
The Safety & Wellness Committee is tasked with creating an environment in which the students here at the University (all 24,000 of you) feel safe. As you can imagine, this isn’t the easiest job in the world, but it’s something that we are all passionate about and very committed to. A few of our upcoming projects include restructuring SafeWalk to allow it to better supplement SafeRide, free CPR recertification classes to keep students prepared in the event of an emergency, and, to keep up with technology, iPhone applications that can send alerts to friends if you don’t arrive home on time. The beauty of changing times is that they also change the way in which we interact with one another, and we are always trying to find new ways to help students here feel at home away from home. If you have new ideas, would love to get involved with this integral aspect of the student experience, or think you can come up with better safety puns, please apply here!
Also, first-years: mark your calendar for the Student Council’s annual SAFE Day! On September 25, from 12-2 in the Old Dorms Quad, we will have a fair with all of the safety resource groups from around Grounds ready to answer any questions you may have! Plus, you’ll get free Arch’s. So be there!
But before you go (I swear this isn’t an infomercial): Star Wars According to a 3-year-old. She might be my favorite YouTube star, and I’ve made it my mission to show this to everyone I know. Enjoy! And good luck with your application!
