This week’s Spotlight focuses on Kevin Pujanauski, a fourth year in the Political Honors and Global Development Studies programs. Kevin’s passion for social entrepreneurship led him to involvement with SEED, Student Entrepreneurs for Economic Development, in his first year. After his second year he traveled to Berlin, where he helped combat poverty by facilitating the growth of new citizen-run businesses. SEED provides free counseling to non-profits and social businesses in the Charlottesville community and beyond. They currently have seventy-five students that help clients with seventeen projects in ten different countries.
This year Kevin managed to get a new track added to the UVa Cup, a competition in which students submit creative ideas for new businesses. He contributed in designing a preliminary competition based entirely on social entrepreneurship. Kevin currently takes part in running important activities for the competition such as judge selection and information sessions. He has also been working to develop a minor in social entrepreneurship that will be piloted next fall. Kevin truly believes that UVa students have the fundamental skills to become future leaders in this field and hopes to make it more prominent at the University.
