Until 2012…

FINALS! There here and we have to deal with them. I’m taking a study break to write this final post of the semester and it’s well needed. I hope that both new and returning students have had a wonderful semester and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to our month-long winter break!!

Since this is my last post I wanted to highlight some of the work I’ve done this semester and what I hope to accomplish next semester.

As the Curry school representative I listen to the voices of education students and make sure that they are in the know about all things StudCo. But it’s also good to have a little fun since we’re working so hard. For Homecomings, I helped to organize a spirit event for the Curry School since our usual events could not happen this year. I didn’t want Curry students to be left out so myself along with the Education Council and the Director of Communications for the Curry School put together a “Wear Your Curry T-Shirt Day” to show school spirit and all students were able to get free ice-cream from an old-fashioned ice-cream truck that we were able to get parked on grounds. I think it was a success and I talked to students who also thought it was a great idea!

I also serve as a rep on two committees, Public Service and Community Affairs. The Public Service committee has been hard at work with providing the Public Service Spotlight, which highlights exceptional individuals who are dedicated to public service as well as promoting the Learning and Action Website that lists many opportunities for students to get involved in service. The Community Affairs committee has had some great programming this semester. I hope many of you were able to take part in the 911 Remembrance activates as well as Employee Appreciation Week.

I also work on the HooforHire committee and we have been quite successful with launching the site which is a platform for students and community members to connect by advertising and posting jobs or services. Look out for StudentDeals, a site that allows UVA students to get discounts from local business.

So as you can see I have been pretty busy this semester! Stay tuned for many more exciting projects coming from Student Council next semester, including a Prom Dress Drive that will allow students to donate their unwanted formal dresses to help high school seniors who can’t afford a prom dress as well as a public service conference that will bring together public service CIO’s and lovers of service all to one place.

Until 2012,

El’licia P.

Curry School Rep.
