Public Service Spotlight: Lily Bowles
The last Spotlight of the semester focuses on Lily Bowles, a fourth-year at the University majoring in Political and Social Thought. Lily has played a pivotal role in developing public service on grounds over the past few years. Some of her key involvements include Flash Seminars, EngageUVA, and OpenGrounds. She is also the lead fellow of Public Service Fellows and previously served as co-chair of the Student Council Public Service Committee. Furthermore, Lily was instrumental in creating nearly all of these organizations. She worked with OpenGrounds, for example, to open a new space on the Corner with hopes of bringing diverse minds and ideas together.
Lily’s efforts aim to inform students of service opportunities and promote civic engagement at UVa. Awareness is essential to get students interested in organizations that they can be passionate about. Another one of her current goals is to establish a pan-university social entrepreneurship initiative and offer more courses on this topic in future semesters. She encourages all students to collaborate and take advantage of the many different ways to get involved. Although Lily graduates this year, her dedication to public service has made a lasting impact on the entire University community.
