Public Service Spotlight: Nate Morawetz

This week’s Spotlight focuses on Nate Morawetz, a 3rd year majoring in Environmental Thought and Practice and Economics. While fellow UVA students spent their summers studying abroad or working at internships, Nate participated in a cross country bicycle trip with the non-profit Bike & Build. Through fundraising before the trip and building stops along the way, Bike & Build works to support affordable housing organizations.

In 81 days, Nate and his team traveled from Charleston, SC to Santa Cruz, CA, covering nearly 4,200 miles! Some of his favorite rides were in Colorado, including 6 days spent working on a single house. Nate was inspired to go on the trip by Bike & Build alum and fellow UVA student Bradley Whitwell. Nate said “I had volunteered with Charlottesville’s Habitat for Humanity before the trip, and I am now looking for ways to stay involved with the organization through UVa’s Habitat for Humanity.”
