Public Service Spotlight: Mindy Heard

This week’s Spotlight features Mindy Heard, a 3rd year majoring in financial economics and Spanish and the Personnel Director for Pancakes for Parkinson’s. This incredibly popular annual event involves nearly 300 student volunteers! Mindy’s position as the Personnel Director entails recruiting, organizing positions, and coordinating these volunteers the day of the event.

Mindy was inspired to take on this role by personal experience – in 2011, Mindy’s mother was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s. Mindy said that she “joined Pancakes for Parkinson’s in hopes that our organization’s efforts would help to remove the frustration and distress that inevitably comes with a Parkinson’s diagnosis from not only my home, but also from the homes of every family struggling with the fight against this disease”.

The 9th Annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s, benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation, will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 9 AM to 1 PM on the South Lawn.
