Public Service Spotlight: Grant Nelson

This week’s Public Service Spotlight features Grant Nelson, a 4th year economics major. He serves as this year’s Head Program Director for Madison House’s Holiday Sharing program. As the director of 5 other program directors, Grant serves as coordinator of enrollment, recruit- ment, donations and logistics. After making a spur-of-the-moment decision to volunteer in his second year, Grant served as a Program director last year.

“The goal of Holiday Sharing is to provide a happier, more comfortable holiday season for as many Charlottesville families as possible,” Grant said. In collaboration with the Salvation Army, Holiday Sharing’s donations represent a full 15-20% of the Angel Tree program.

Sponsors of the donations include a variety of different students from around UVA, from faculty to sports teams to student organizations. Sponsors can sign up at http://www.madisonhouse.org/holidaysharing/sponsor.php. Individuals can also make donations via holiday trees at the Bookstore, Clark, Clemons, O’Hill, and Madison House.
