Academic Affairs


The Academic Affairs Committee shall be responsible for addressing the academic and educational concerns of students, both inside and outside the classroom, and for representing the study body by addressing student academic concerns to the university administration.

Meet the Co-Chairs

Elaine Koo

Elaine Koo is a Third Year Commerce¬†major from South Riding, Virginia. She has been a member of the Academic Affairs committee since her First Year at the University of Virginia. She is excited to encourage student ownership of their academics through innovative initiatives such as the Cavalier Education program and the annual Look Hoos Talking event. She aspires to holistically address academic concerns with the committee by unifying the student body and faculty advisors. Apart from the committee, Elaine serves as a Resident Advisor for First Years in Gooch and is Membership Chair for the Women’s Business Forum (WBF). Elaine enjoys passing her spare time by baking (anything with chocolate) and practicing yoga.

Alex Heyer

Alex Heyer is a third year from Phoenix, AZ majoring in Chemistry. He enjoys curling up with a good book, cooking a successful meal, and discussing movies with friends. He joined the Academic Affairs committee as a first year. Outside of the StudCo lyfe, Alex is a Resident Advisor on Mount Kellogg, a Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry, an undergraduate researcher in the Harman Research Lab, and a member of the Jefferson Society. Alex is excited for his committee’s initatives like Look Hoos Talking this Fall as well as the creation of an Academic Resource Center (ARC) website.
