The University Unity Project was a novel initiative conceived by Student Council to try to focus the attention of Council and the University on a specific issue that faces the University community. This year, we reached out to a diverse group of organizations, both on Grounds and off, in an attempt to improve the relationship between the University and Charlottesville communities with our focus on “Charlottesville: Beyond Our Grounds, Within Our Community.” As a part of continuing the Unity Project next year, we are giving students a unique chance to voice their opinion about what issue they feel deserves the attention of the next Student Council administration, and indeed the entire University community.
Students and student groups will have the opportunity to define the execution of the theme through their various and creative initiatives; indeed, a central strength of the Unity Project is to have students and groups define and contribute to the mission however they feel they are able.

Stressed about housing for next year? Already signing leases? Think it’s too early? StudCo does too.
At the beginning of this school year, our Building and Grounds committee launched the Don’t Sign It! campaign, a three-year initiative to try and fix the student-wide problem of early lease-signing dates for housing both on and off-Grounds. Want to know more about the effort or just get some more information about housing?

The University Unity Project: Beyond our Grounds, Within our Community
Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
The students of The University of Virginia are proud to announce the first ever University Unity Project. The 2008-2009 Unity Project will be a yearlong effort to focus on the community that exists beyond the Grounds of our University. It is a challenge to fuse our roles as students and citizens and to realize a sense of ownership and belonging in this community, as well. The Unity Project will seek to allow the potential of this institution’s student body to coalesce into an immense, cohesive effort. This is a call for every student and every student organization to invest themselves in this project and in the community beyond our Grounds.
We’ll be kicking off this year’s Unity Project with the Farmer’s Market in just a few days.
