Meet the Student Council Appropriations Team
The purpose of Student Council is to protect and improve the rights, opportunities, and quality of life of each student at the University of Virginia. Student Council has proudly provided SAF funding to CIOs through the Appropriations Process since 1943.
Student Council Vice President for Organizations (VPO), Aneesha N. Rao
The duties of the Student Council VPO, with respect to the Appropriations Process, are to provide oversight and leadership for the process and to serve as the spokesperson for the Appropriations Committee.
Appropriations Co-Chairs, Ashish Makadia and Mariana Cobo
The Co-Chairs and the members of the Appropriations Committee are human resources for CIOs, available to answer questions about budgets and expenses. The Co-Chairs can advise your group about how to present an expenditure report to the Committee, and explain what to expect during the process.
Mariana Cobo: (Office Hours: Tuesdays 2:00-3:30pm and Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm) was born in Cali, Colombia and is currently a third year majoring in Psychology and Economics. She served on the Appropriations Committee last year and now as Co-Chair for the committee she looks forward to making the Appropriations Committee more accessible to all CIOs on Grounds and increasing knowledge about the Appropriations process and the SAF guidelines among student leaders. In her free time she volunteers with a non-profit organization in her home country and loves playing piano.
Ashish Makadia (Office Hours: Wednesdays: 1:00 PM-3:00 PM), a proud member of the Class of 2014, currently studied pre-commerce and computer science. He is from Richmond, Virginia and in his free time he enjoys going mountain biking on Charlottesville’s many trails and hanging out with friends. As the Co-Chair of the Appropriations committee for the 2011-2012 school year, he hopes to increase transparency of the Appropriations process, simplify the SAF guidelines, and improve the general availability of the Appropriations Committee as a resource to all CIO’s on Grounds.
