1. On Tuesday 1/17 City Council voted on whether or not to move the statue of General Lee from Lee Park off of the Downtown Mall to McIntire Park (also located in Charlottesville), as per recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Commission on Race, Memorials and Public Spaces. The vote was 2-2 with one abstention and has left many citizens and Commission members frustrated with inaction.
2. It is budget season, and Council is currently trying to balance many competing needs and projects to help improve Charlottesville. At the forefront of conversation is consideration of increasing the amount of money the City can borrow in order to invest in projects like the West Main Street Streetscape Plan and increasing funding for affordable housing in Charlottesville among other services.
