Design Idea Competition: A Memorial for Enslaved Laborers | UVA Student Council

“Preserving our Past, Framing our Future”

Registration: November 24- January 26
Open to ALL UVA Students
Cash prizes will be awarded.

Countless enslaved men and women helped in the construction and maintenance of our university in its early years. It is time to honor their legacy, and bring them to the forefront of our memory. As part of a larger effort to fully embrace our history, the committee for a Memorial for Enslaved Laborers, in partnership with Student Council, UCARE, and the Black Student Alliance invite you to submit your designs for what you imagine a memorial on Grounds to look like. Competition entries will be eligible for display in a public exhibition in the Spring, and winners will be awarded cash prizes!

Deadline to submit designs is March 1, 2011
