Student Council, in partnership with the Center for Politics, the Parents Committee, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Department of Parking and Transportation, and multiple CIOs, is pleased to announce on-Grounds voter shuttle service on Election Day. Dedicated Safe Ride vans will transport students who live on-Grounds from Leake Drive outside O’Hill Dining Hall to their designated polling place at University Hall. These shuttles will run continuously from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 8th. The Center for Politics and the Parents Committee have graciously offered to fund this effort.
Please visit Parking & Transportation’s one-stop guide to Election Day transportation at http://www.virginia.edu/parking/vote/. In addition to the shuttles for First Year students, the guide outlines options available for other students. The nonpartisan CAR2Vote offers rides to students by online reservation at http://bit.ly/CAR2Vote or without reservation from behind the McIntire School on Ruppel Drive, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Election Day. Students may also utilize UVA’s carpooling system, Zimride, to find available seats headed to the polls: https://www.zimride.com/virginia/. The University Transit System and Charlottesville Area Transit will also provide transportation to certain polling stations near Grounds as part of their regular routes on November 8th. Check your voter registration, and confirm your polling location at https://elections.virginia.gov.
The right and responsibility to vote is a quintessential component of democratic governance. We are fortunate to attend a University that celebrates self-governance and has worked with students to ensure we will have transportation to the polls on Election Day. November 8th is two weeks from Tuesday. Make a plan to get to your polling location and vote: Coordinate with your friends. Organize transportation. Vote. It’s your voice, your choice, your vote.
