First Year Players Presents: "The Music Man" | UVA Student Council

Several of the Student Arts committee members are involved in this production. Come support them Thursday – Sunday at 8 PM in the SAB! Here are a few words from FYP veteran (and committee member extraordinaire) Steph Lebolt:

In just one week every fall and spring, the Student Activities Building is transformed
from a simple warehouse into a full-scale theatre, complete with stage, lights,
costumes, and orchestra! Twenty-six extremely talented first-year and first-year
transfer students have been working hard all semester to put on “The Music Man,” a
beautiful and timeless musical.

“The Music Man” stars con-man Harold Hill (Clay Shorey) who poses as a boy’s band
instructor in an attempt to dupe a small Iowa town into paying for band instruments
and uniforms before he skips town. His scheme is thwarted by the prim and proper
(and beautiful) librarian, Marian Paroo (Daria Mosman). When Hill helps her
younger brother overcome a fear of social interaction, Marian begins to fall for the
con-man. Hill in turn, risks being caught to win her. “The Music Man” includes classic
numbers such as “Shipoopi”, “Seventy-Six Trombones”, and “Til There was You.”

First Year Players is a unique organization that gives first-year UVA students
the opportunity to appear onstage, while also building lasting relationships with
upperclassmen. All years can participate in the pit orchestra or any of the technical
aspects. This brilliant production was directed by fourth-year Leah Davis, and
supported by outstanding upperclassmen vocal teachers, choreographers, and
assistant directors.

Seeing a First Year Players show is something on the list to do before you graduate,
so don’t miss it! The hard work of cast, pit, and crew has paid off. A fantastic cast of
singers, dancers, and actors awaits…

Break a leg!
