The Student Council is proud to announce the creation of two annual awards, the highest awards the Council presents to University faculty and staff: the Student Council Distinguished Teaching Award and the Leonard W. Sandridge Student Partnership Award.
Student Council President, Colin Hood, will chair the selection committees, which each will include the Chair of the Representative Body, Ben Wallace, five undergraduate representatives, and two graduate students. All members of the selection committees will be confirmed by the Student Council Representative Body.
Student Council Distinguished Teaching Award
This award will be given annually to recognize a teacher who makes a positive and lasting impact on the university through: dedication to developing relationships with students and the creation of an engaging and challenging classroom atmosphere.
Leonard W. Sandridge Student Partnership Award
In 1979, Leonard Sandridge addressed the Student Council for the first time to discuss a decision by the Board of Visitors regarding student fees. Since this appearance, Mr. Sandridge annually addresses the Council to discuss the current state of the University and to answer questions from student representatives. Last night, Mr. Sandridge spoke before this body for the last time before his spring retirement.
In recognition of Mr. Sandridge’s lasting impact on the community and his strong commitment to building unified efforts with the student body, this annual award was established. This award will be given annually to recognize a member of the University administration who makes a positive and lasting impact on the university through: dedication to developing relationships and partnerships with students and/or student organizations.
