Welcome back to an already exciting spring semester! The Diversity Initiatives Committee has great plans and we’re excited to share it with you all!
An ongoing project that our committee has been working on is Accessibility Awareness. Our members have been passionately working to make inaccessible routes on grounds more accessible. Committee member, Emily Marshall, is a student member of the Committee on Access for Persons with Disabilities. She and various members of DI have raised the issue that some doors around Grounds are inaccessible. As a result, the Access Committee has agreed to finance changes for ten doors on Grounds to make them accessible for persons with disabilities. So be on the look out for these changes in the near future!
We are also in the middle of planning a Leader’s Luncheon on February 17th to promote diversity on Grounds. We plan to invite leaders of various cultural, ethnic, and religious CIOs on Grounds to foster relationships amongst one another. We might be providing Chipotle! Definitely not an event you would want to miss! J
Keep a lookout for our Positivity Posts in February! Hopefully it’ll brighten your day up!
Another exciting event we are planning is Diversity Week. We plan on having an inter-faith dinner, culture night, and a few other events. Keep an eye out for more information later!
Our committee is available for all students who have any concerns or would want to see some changes implemented here at UVa. Please let us know and we will be more than happy to help you out!
Have a great week!
