Organizing Action in Response to House Bill 1410 Limiting Financial Aid | UVA Student Council

Legislative Affairs has been engaged in organizing a student response to education bills that have been proposed in the Virginia State legislature. The State Relations subcommittee has been working closely with Laura Fornash and the President’s office to establish a course of student action in response to Delegate Albo’s HB 1410a bill that would severely restrict the availability of financial aid to university students across the Commonwealth. The Legislative Affairs committee is prepared to send students to Richmond for testimony about this bill and others (including a bill legalizing grain alcohol – “the Everclear Bill”) during session. Additionally, the Political Engagement subcommittee is working on an effective means to publicize the need for broader student testimonies and securing the Virginia gubernatorial candidates for a potential Town Hall later in the semester.
