The Community Service committee conducted the first focus group for the Charlottesville Trail App last Saturday. The goal of the app is to better connect and UVA students to the Charlottesville community. In relation to service, it is important for students to interact with and engage with the history of the city in order to better serve the community. Participants provided insightful feedback, such as the importance of focusing on what the community needs (i.e. the community should participate in focus groups as well), instead of only focusing on what students can receive from community engagement. They plan to conduct more of these focus groups with students and community partners to figure out the best use of the app.
We are excited to announce we are excited to announce that the Career Center will be covering funds for the competition space for our Service Case Competition. We are looking at potentially partnering with UVa’s Global Development Organization for the competition as well. The committee is working with Stephanie Doktor and Katelyn Durkin to improve the list of Civic and Community engagement courses.
