Sharing this week’s Spotlight are Porter Nenon, a 1st year History and Foreign Affairs major and Trisha Cruz, a 4th year Media Studies and Studio Art major! Porter and Trisha are the Lead Curators of TEDxUVA, an independent offshoot of the Technology, Entertainment, and Design conferences. The conferences, which consist of short speeches (“TED Talks”) and networking, are centered on the concept of “Ideas Worth Spreading”. TEDxUVA will cover a topics including civic activism, poetry, local food, and entrepreneurship. Porter and Trisha explained their motivation for starting the event, saying that “Since a university environment is all about education and dialogue, we were both excited about bringing the TED vibe to UVA”.
As Lead Curators, Porter and Trisha oversee a team of students on tasks ranging from t-shirt design to event budgets and logistics. In planning the conference, which will be held on April 20th, they hope to create an innovative environment that will inspire change in and out of the classroom. Additional information about the event is available at www.tedxuva.com.
