Dear Students;

The March 1st deadline for applying for financial aid for 2013-2014 is fast approaching!  Don’t miss out on your opportunity to be considered for all forms of need-based aid.  Complete your FAFSA ( and your University Financial Aid Application (in the Finances section of your SIS Student Center) by February 28th to ensure we receive them both by March 1st. After March 1st, make sure to check your To Do List regularly throughout the Spring to ensure you promptly provide all other information Student Financial Services requires to complete your financial aid award.

The Learning in Action website ( is the hub for public service opportunities at the University. This website is the place to find out more about existing organizations on grounds and in the community, events, public service classes, and much more. If you’re a public service organization that wants to advertise for an event you’re having, submit your event and the site will post it! Send us ideas for the site and suggestions for websites we link to our site, by contacting us at

In the wake of the fiscal cliff conversation, Senator Mark Warner (a leader in this significant topic) will visit UVA to give a non-partisan speech about the national debt. President Sullivan will give introductory remarks. This event is sponsored by the UVA Up to Us Team. As students, it will be exceptional to hear about the national debt from one of the leading Senators on this cause.  However, in-person seating is limited. 250+ students have already signed up. One Billion Rising is an international movement in 189 countries to demand an end to violence against women. On February 14th in the Newcomb Ballroom, Spectrum Theatre and the UVA Women’s Center are proudly sponsoring a rising in Charlottesville. There will be music, dancing, artwork, educational resources and free food! This is a chance to celebrate the women in our community and to demand an end to domestic and sexual violence here and abroad. Find us on Facebookour blog, or see OBR’s homepage.
Entrepreneurs and “Starters” at UVa, Learn about the latest developments in the entrepreneurial scene at the University, and check out our new site: A free dinner will be provided at our launch event: 5:30PM Wednesday, Feb 6, at Jefferson Hall (Hotel C, West Range). All Starters, Entrepreneurship-focused organizations are welcome. Spencer Ingram, from HackCville, will be speaking.
 At Entrepreneurial Team Pitch and Play, Come listen to the pitches from the first annual JET Program. Network with local entrepreneurs and see how you can join the program next year!  Tuesday, Feb 12 at  5:30PM at OpenGrounds. Open to all local entrepreneurs-turned-mentors, student starter teams, UVa Innovations, and anyone else who is interested. Free dinner provided.
