Welcome to Grounds— let's break a world record. | UVA Student Council

Welcome to Grounds. Whether you’re moving in for the first time or back for another year, Student Council is glad to have you here. As you settle in and prepare for classes, I wanted to inform you of some resources and events Student Council has put together just for you.
First and foremost, Student Council’s kick-off event this year is bigger than ever. We are planning to Break the World Record for Most High-Fives in an Hour, featuring Dean Groves. Happening this Wednesday, August 28th at 6:45pm on the Lawn, it’s a great opportunity to meet other students, check off “High-Five Dean Groves” from your Things to Do Before Graduation list, and, of course, break a world record. I look forward to seeing you there.

Second, Student Council has just launched a brand new Guide to Grounds. Whether you are a first-year, transfer, or just looking for a refresher on things to do around Charlottesville, this guide will be a huge help; we have worked hard to make this as complete a resource as possible. Check it out at www.uvastudentcouncil.com/guide2013.
Finally, Student Council is proud to announce a new trio of resources available to make your life easier:
  1. SpeakUpUVa.com: Have an idea for something that needs to be changed around Grounds? StudCo is here to help. SpeakUpUVa.com is an online idea box where students submit and vote on ideas to make life easier. Council draws our initiatives directly from the site, and if your idea gets enough support, a representative will respond and help make it happen.
  2. Academic Resource Center (ARC): New this year, the Academic Resource Center is a centralized portal for all of your academic needs. Information about declaring a major, tutorials on the Student Information System, and so much more can be found on the site. Check it our at www.uvastudentcouncil.com/arc.
  3. UVaDocket.com: UVa Docket is a brand new universal calendar for all things happening around Grounds. Browse events, research clubs, and even assemble your personalized calendar. If you run a club or team and want to post your own events, you can do that too. You’ll never wonder what is going on around Grounds again.
That’s all for now. Have a great semester, and don’t forget to swing by the Activities Fair Monday from 11am-2pm on the Lawn!
As always, if you are looking for more information about what Student Council is up to, make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and of course at www.uvastudentcouncil.com.
All the best,
Eric McDaniel
